North Lanarkshire Count

May 16, 2017

Constituents in Fortissat Ward have understandably been concerned that one of their recently-elected councillors was absent on the platform when the results were announced, and did not appear to attend the count.

We have heard there was some confusion about whether or not it was our Unionist Party candidate, or the Conservative candidate who did not attend. We can confirm that our Unionist Party candidate, Jeffrey McDonald, was present at the count and on the stage as the results were delivered. Sandy Thornton, the Conservative candidate who was elected, was absent from the platform.

The below picture shows our candidate Jeffrey McDonald pictured far-left, and the others can be identified by their rosettes: three Labour (only two of whom were candidates; the lady in the middle will probably have been some sort of election agent), one independent and two SNP. Only Sandy Thornton the Conservative candidate was absent.
